The Baths of Caracalla

The Baths of Caracalla is a huge complex.

The baths consist of:

Frigidarium, cold room, in the centre

Vaults

Tepidarium, warm room, a double pool

Caldarium, hot room

Two palaestras, gyms where wrestling and boxing is practised

Natatio, swimming pool, at the North end

The entire building is raised on a six metre platform to allow for storage and furnaces under the building.

The baths are the second to have a public library within the complex. Like other public libraries in Rome there are two separate and equal sized rooms, one for Greek language texts and one for Latin language texts.
